Day 4 & 5 Kitchen and Family Room Demos

Hello ALL:
I took the weekend off to doautocross with my Porsche pals at the nearby Sonoma County Airport. We take over a remote small taxi runway and transform it into sea of orange cones and race around them to get our elapsed times down by hundredth of seconds. Saturday we had 27 cars compete and 42 cars on Sunday. Saturday I got sunburn and Sunday I wore a sweatshirt to keep warm.  What crazy weather Anyway, I am back blogging to tell you more about our remodel.

When last I wrote, we were completing the Hall Bathroom. All that was left was the bathtub. Sandy and I had much debate as to it's faith. In the end we were swayed by a full size shower stall system we saw at the cabinet makers.

Darrell and Stacy are great at providing Sandy and I their thoughts and experience every step along the way. They point out things we did not consider and are always mindful of our budget.

Below is a fisheye view of the bathroom demo. No floor, walls, cabinets or fixtures. Rough plumbing and electrical work are now complete.

Now the focus shifts to the kitchen were doors and windows need too be ordered. Soon to be gone were those annoying sliding door that took all my strength to open. They were heavy, old and not practical.

Note the permit plans on the floor
next to window. Next step is give Sandy and idea where all the cabinets and appliance will located in the kitchen. Note the blue tape.

Above outline in blue tape the island counter with a over hang of granite on the right side. you can see where all the appliances will be installed on the porch side where the widow is located.

Above is the view of the L shaped counter going into the old dining area also with a granite overhang. You can see on the left where the oven and pantry cabinets will be installed. If you look closely the island has lost half of it overhang to sustain better circulation around the counter and oven-microwave areas. The studded wall will soon be free of wires and removed.

This is our family room not in the original scope of work. However, we increased our budget to gut it and blend it into the rest of the remodel.
That included removing the popcorn ceiling, false beams, carpet and redo the stair railing to code height of 42".  Later in this blog, we will have other revisions to scope.

Know anyone who needs some good condition furniture? the Steeles are wheeling and dealing to clear our front porch...

Next is more demo
