Santa Rosa is Our HOME

Hello ALL:
This is my first blog ever. I was encouraged by my son, Sean to publish one on our remodel project. So here we go. This all started last year when Sandy and I were looking at our retirement options. We asked each other where you wanted to retire? San Diego?, Denver?, Hawaii?,
somewhere warm was our standard reply. We realized the ideal home for us was the one we already had.  So began our journey to make our Wikiup home more updated. We decided to re-finance our home to fund our renovations. First priority was a new roof. The current roof was over 55 years old and the house leaked every rainy season.

We now have a new 50 year roof that doesn't leak, keeping the house cooler in the summer and is 21 tons lighter. Our next focus was painting the house. Also I wanted to finish the front columns with a stone cladding, add a new front door and replace all mismatch exterior fixtures with a  single lighting look. The challenge was picking a house color.  Our searching had the answer right in front of us... POST-IT yellow. Clint, our painting contractor painted our house and stained the deck in a week. He even removed old eyesores and repaired our back stairs.

We spent 2012 doing all the above fixes. We decided to run off to Maui for three weeks in November to plan our next phase of renovation, the interior of out home. I hired my friend, Kristy to develop our construction and interior design plans. She had to referee Sandy and I over finishes and fixtures. We picked a General Contractor, D-Built Construction and stated the pre-renovation phase. We purchased all new appliances and stored them the basement. We also pre-purchased four granite slaps: three Yellow River Brushed and one Blue Bahia. We replaced most interior doors with frosted glass solid pine doors with oil rub bronze hardware. We had to increase our budget so we re-financed and applied for a Line of Credit to insure we could get all the work completed.
